To solve concerns about pests, termites, molds of importers as well as customs of some importing countries, especially with some markets such as the US, Canada, Europe, Australia is one of the If the market requires strict quarantine and fumigation, exporters need to carry out fumigation of goods before exporting.
Fumigation is a commonly used method of spraying chemicals to treat termites, termites, in general, possible insects (nematodes, small worms, …), to disinfect goods made of wood or containing chemicals. related to wood to avoid contamination during transportation of goods, to prevent the spread of parasitic living microorganisms in wood veins between countries around the world.
Fumigation has no effect on the goods when sent in terms of quality and appearance.

Why is it necessary to fumigate export goods?

  • In order to save costs, businesses often choose to export by sea and land, so the transit time is often long. Goods are sealed in containers with high temperatures (above 40 degrees Celsius), this is a favorable condition for mold and insects to proliferate.
  • Fumigation of exported goods is an international regulation to minimize and control the spread of harmful insect organisms.
  • Fumigation of goods before export to maintain a long-term cooperation relationship, besides, importers can also do customs clearance procedures smoothly.
  • Exported goods need to meet customs regulations at the port of destination, otherwise they will be subject to heavy fines.
Because of the above reasons, in order to export goods smoothly, it is necessary to disinfect goods before exporting.

  • Organizations and businesses need to disinfect goods at the request of importers.

These are 2 cases where goods need fumigation

1.Some agricultural products are of organic origin such as rice, tea, pepper, cashew, coffee …, wood products that have not been surface treated, or goods derived from wood such as bamboo and rattan products, handicrafts, etc. If these items are not treated with chemicals, during transportation, termites, termites, molds or other harmful insects will arise during transportation.

2. Goods using wooden packaging, shelves or dunnage in international trade (wooden pallets, wooden crates, wooden pallets, wooden dunnage…) need to be fumigated before export, because in large quantities Shipping time at sea lasts from 2 weeks to 6 weeks, chemical goods are packed in sealed containers with high temperature (over 40 degrees Celsius) and a humid environment with moisture creating favorable conditions for mold and mildew. insects proliferate.

What chemicals are commonly used to disinfect export goods?

AKNT FUMIGATION uses two commonly used disinfectants,  Methyl Bromide (CH3Br) and Phosphine (PH3).
Methyl Bromide (CH3Br) : Is an active ingredient with superior permeability, capable of killing many types of pests including: insects, weeds, bacteria, nematodes… However, Methyl Bromide is a degrading agent. The ozone layer, which is controlled in Annex E of the Montreal Protocol, will be gradually replaced.

Application of Methyl Bromide :

  • Methyl kills most harmful insects, molds, bacteria, weeds in the soil, etc. They contribute to the protection of crops, goods & bring economic value.
  • Has fast evaporation and strong diffusivity. The drug penetrates into the piles of goods and agricultural products very quickly and deeply.
  • Effect of killing, preventing eggs, larvae, cocoons, pupae, adults of all kinds of harmful insects to preserve products.
  • Kill weevils on Agricultural products such as cashew nuts, pepper, coffee beans, rice, wheat, soybeans, tapioca chips, tapioca, cassava, corn, cereals, … all kinds of flour
  • Kill weevils on Raw materials for industrial animal feed such as: rice bran, fish bran, extracted bran, bone bran … or finished bran.
  • Disinfection and cleaning of production line systems that are heavily infected with weevils in factories producing animal feed, poultry, animal feed, etc.

Using Methyl Bromide in fumigation of export goods
Phosphine (PH3) : An effective future substitute for Methyl Bromide. Pure phosphine, odorless, tasteless, concentrations below 200 ppm, at low concentrations PH3 is released from metal phosphides with an earthy or garlic odor.
Applications of Phosphine (PH3):
Used to kill weevils of agricultural products to kill grain weevils, kill rice beetles, kill animal feed beetles, disinfect warehouses, or some products that do not secrete essential oils.
Commonly used for sterilization: cereals in a drawer or in silos; cigarettes, cakes, bales, crates; packaged processed foods and fodder; bagged cereals stacked on top of each other.

Phosphine is the preferred drug in the sterilization of export goods
* Note: Because Methyl Bromide 98% is very toxic and affects the ozone layer, the Montreal Protocol was born, restricting the use of this chemical. This chemical has not been completely replaced by another chemical, so the ban has not been achieved, but only limited, instead, substitute chemicals will be used for a number of objects and items with harmful effects. can be replaced, such as the chemical Aluminum Phosphide 56%.
Many countries around the world also follow this decree, exporters should check with the importer, how they require certificates, what chemicals to use for disinfection. Avoid the use of chemicals that the party is not authorized to show on the document.
